Sony Honda

Sony and Honda have announced they've signed a "memorandum of understanding" that they'll establish a new company to build electric vehicles together.

The new joint venture will be established in 2022 and the two companies expect the first EV model to arrive in 2025.

The joint company will plan, design, develop and sell the EVs, while Honda will supply the manufacturing facilities, and Sony will develop the mobility service platform.

Sony already announced to the world that it's getting into EVs way back at CES 2020 when it showcased the Vision-S concept. It unveiled the Vision-S 02 in January of this year, saying that it will establish the Sony Mobility Inc company in the spring of 2022 to make electric vehicles. That plan now involves Honda.

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said "Through this alliance with Honda, which has accumulated extensive global experience and achievements in the automobile industry over many years and continues to make revolutionary advancements in this field, we intend to build on our vision to ‘make the mobility space an emotional one,’ and contribute to the evolution of mobility centered around safety, entertainment and adaptability.”.

Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe, CEO of Honda added: “The New Company will aim to stand at the forefront of innovation, evolution, and expansion of mobility around the world, by taking a broad and ambitious approach to creating value that exceeds the expectations and imagination of customers. We will do so by leveraging Honda’s cutting-edge technology and know-how in relation to the environment and safety, while aligning the technological assets of both companies."

Two legends coming together to change the future for the better. So excited, given that I'm a staunch Sony and Honda fan (+ user)!
