Afeela Announcement

At the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show, Afeela, the electric vehicle brand born from a partnership between Sony and Honda, unveiled a near production-ready version of its inaugural car, the Afeela 1. This midsize liftback, first teased at the CES last year, promises an array of cutting-edge technology and impressive specifications.

The Afeela 1 will make its debut in two trims: the Afeela 1 Origin and the Afeela 1 Signature. Priced at $89,900 and $102,900 respectively, both versions include a three-year subscription to a suite of in-car features, including an AI-powered personal assistant and semi-automated driver-assist systems. Deliveries of the Signature trim will start in mid-2026, with the Origin trim following in 2027.

Measuring 193.5 inches in length, the Afeela 1 is slightly shorter than a Lucid Air, but its wheelbase promises generous interior space. Inside the cabin, a panoramic series of screens stretches across the dashboard, complemented by a yoke-style steering wheel for an unobstructed view. Sustainable materials were used all over the interior, and Sony's 360 Spatial Sound Technologies ensure an immersive audio experience.

The Afeela 1 is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. Each motor generates 241 hp, promising brisk acceleration. A 91 kWh lithium-ion battery provides an estimated EPA range of up to 300 miles. The vehicle supports DC fast charging at rates of up to 150 kW and uses a NACS-style charge port.

Advanced Afeela Intelligent Drive system has 40 cameras and sensors. The system will be capable of operating on both highways and urban roads, although driver supervision remains mandatory since, from the start, this is only a Level 2+ system. Sony promises the Level 3 update will follow sometime in the future.

Beyond the vehicle itself, Afeela envisions a comprehensive digital ecosystem. The company wants to create an open platform where developers can create applications and services for Afeela 1, mirroring the app ecosystem of mobile phones. Honda will handle the production of the Afeela 1 at its Ohio plant. The company plans to expand the Afeela lineup with an SUV and a compact model later this decade.

If it's Sony you'll probably need a subscription to access different features.
