This is the second time Tesla increasing its prices for the Model 3 and Y this month but this time around, it's also upping the price tags of its Model S and X cars too. Although the price hikes are made rather quietly, the company's CEO, Elon Musk, hinted yesterday that inflation is putting pressure on Tesla and SpaceX.
In raw numbers, that means you will have to pay $2,000 more for the base Model 3 while the dual-motor, all-wheel drive option and the Performance version ask $2,500 and $3,000 more, respectively. The final pricing goes $46,990, $54,490 and $61,990.
The Model Y LR can now be bought for $62,990 - a $2,000 increase, whereas the Performance iteration asks $3,000 more and is now $67,990. The base Model S is now almost $100,000 ($99,990 to be exact) - a hefty $5,000 increase, which applies to the other options too.
The Model X gets the steepest increase. The car asks $10,000 more than before and starts at $114,990.
It's probably to no one's surprise that EVs are getting more expensive amid the war in Ukraine as the country is a big exporter of nickel while sanctioned Russia exports a huge amount of metal as well. Both countries are crucial for the manufacturing of cars and batteries in general.
