Tesla's Model Y Performance finally lands in China

Tesla

Tesla launched the new Model Y Performance in August of last year, and ever since July this year we've known that it was preparing to launch it in China. This has finally happened today.

The Model Y Performance starts at CNY 369,000 (approximately $55,000). Thus, it is, unsurprisingly, the most expensive Model Y variant in China, outdoing the six-seat Model Y L by around CNY 30,000 (about $4,400). The cheapest Model Y in China starts at CNY 263,500 (around $39,000).

Tesla's Model Y Performance finally lands in China

The Model Y Performance has a CLTC-rated range of 409 miles and a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of 3.5 seconds. Its top speed is 155 mph. It charges its 78.4kWh battery at up to 250kW DC, adding about 155 miles of CLTC range in 15 minutes. Deliveries are currently set to take place in 2-6 weeks.

This is an important launch for Tesla because the Model Y Performance arrives after three consecutive months of year-on-year sales declines for the Model Y in China. So obviously, the company hopes it can pump up the numbers and reestablish consumer interest in the line with the Performance version.
