The electric vehicle drag strip wars have a new victor. Introducing the Lucid Air Sapphire, the electric sedan that just snatched the crown from the reigning Tesla Model S Plaid for the fastest stock four-door sedan in a quarter-mile. It's official: the Lucid Air Sapphire leaves other EVs in the dust, boasting an insane 8.93-second quarter-mile time.
With three powerful motors generating 1,234 horsepower, the Air Sapphire is an automotive powerhouse. This engineering marvel isn't just built for speed; it's swathed in luxury and comfort. And while it may be the fastest on the drag strip, those heart-pumping sprints come at the slightest prod of the right foot – the Lucid Air Sapphire can hit 60 mph in a mere 1.89 seconds and reach a top speed of 205 mph.
DragTimes' test runs showed that the Lucid Air Sapphire blasted through the quarter-mile in under nine seconds and clocked an eye-popping 1.7-second 0-60 mph time (with a one-foot rollout). To put this into perspective, that's a feat that beats its closest competitor, the Tesla Model S Plaid, which previously held the production four-door drag strip record with a time of 9.246 seconds.
While the Tesla Model S Plaid has a three-motor configuration pumping out 1,020 horsepower, it can't match the raw power and acceleration of the Lucid Air Sapphire. With its sophisticated design and top-of-the-line features, the Sapphire redefines the future of high-performance electric luxury vehicles.
Of course, this kind of speed and luxury comes at a hefty cost. The Lucid Air Sapphire's price tag starts at a cool $249,000 in the US. After a long wait, the Sapphire version is also finally available in Europe - albeit at a slightly steeper $277,000 starting price. That's a lot of green for some blistering acceleration. Still, it could be just the thing for EV enthusiasts who crave speed without sacrificing a lavish ride.
