Mercedes

Remember the Mercedes EQC? No? Well, no one seems to. And Mercedes itself hasn't been too kind to one of its first EVs ever. Launched in February of 2021, it has now come to light that Mercedes discontinued the EQC in the second quarter of 2023.

So it's been dead for more than a year, as the second quarter runs from April to June. Suffice to say, no one really noticed. Mercedes hasn't issued any official press release on the matter last year, not that we were expecting it to - car makers are way more interested in telling you all about their new vehicles, rather than dwell upon those they killed.

The EQC isn't available to order anymore, and hasn't been for a very long time, and production stopped only a bit over two years following its official unveiling. That's an unreasonable time frame to say the least, and we're sure the brand lost a lot of money developing it.

But the big question is, of course - why? Why do this? Why axe a model that was so young? Unfortunately, we're not likely to ever find out. Oh well, RIP EQC, we hardly knew ye. But also - long live the new EQC!

That's right, Mercedes is busy working on the next EQC, which should compete head-on with BMW's upcoming 3 series EV that's due to launch in 2026. The new Mercedes EQC sedan will be one of four initial models using the MMA platform, the others being a couple of crossovers and a wagon (these most likely being successors to the GLA, GLB, and CLA Shooting Brake).

The new EQC is expected to have a less "bulbous" shape, something much criticized in the EQS and EQE. Hints at the new design can be found in both the Concept CLA-Class and the Vision EQXX, reportedly. The future is bright for the EQC, thus - hopefully reality will turn out to be brighter too, at least compared to its long-dead predecessor.

Well, the entire EV line of Mercedes vehicles is mostly regarded as a failure in general, one model being axed is not even newsworthy.

It's been noticed for a while, it's just no one talked about it. EQC had many issues that made it an unpopular choice amongst EQ buyers. More powerful than the EQA and EQB, but had worse range and was more expensive, plus a plethora of issu...
