Zeekr Mix electric MPV revealed through MIIT filing

Zeekr

Chinese automaker Zeekr is expanding its MPV market footprint with yet another offering. The Zeekr Mix, which promises to redefine the image of the family-friendly MPV, is a sleek and spacious vehicle. It packs a host of compelling features, promising a competitive price to go with its modern design language.

Positioned to take on established players like the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, the Zeekr Mix sets itself apart with its dimensions. Measuring 184.6 inches in length, 78.5 inches in width, and 69.1 inches in height, it's slightly shorter but notably wider than the VW ID.Buzz. The Mix truly shines with its 118.4 inches wheelbase, exceeding the Buzz by a meaningful 0.79 inches and promising generous legroom for passengers throughout the cabin. Despite its slightly shorter overall length, Zeekr’s designers have maximized the interior capacity, making the Mix a truly compelling alternative.

The Zeekr Mix is built on the robust foundations of Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). This versatile platform is the structural backbone of various models across different brands within the Geely family, including Zeekr 001, the latest Zeekr 007, Volvo EX30, Smart #3, and even the latest Lotus Emeya - just to name a few. Interestingly, the platform had to be modified to meet the performance requirements of Lotus. There is undeniably a family resemblance to the Zeekr 007 which may suggest other models will follow this design as well.

Under the stylish skin, the Zeekr Mix houses an 86 kWh battery pack, a product of a collaboration between Geely and CATL. Thanks to 800V hardware, the Mix supports rapid charging at speeds up to 360kW, minimizing downtime at charging stations. According to the MIIT filing, there are two models initially, both powered by a single electric motor rated at up to 310 kW - it is the same motor that powers the new Zeekr 007.

What is quite interesting in the photos attached to the MIIT filing, is an absolute lack of door handles. This is the same idea Zeekr pioneered in the Zeekr X model and the Mix will likely feature the same B-pillar screen to provide basic info on the vehicle status. Getting in will mean pressing a little button for the door to fully open automatically.

The Zeekr Mix's smaller size compared to the Zeekr 009 points to an even more affordable entry point, making it within reach for a wider range of families seeking a capable and modern electric vehicle. Thanks to its single-motor, rear-wheel-drive layout, the Mix promises agile handling and peppy acceleration, ensuring an engaging driving experience while still delivering optimal practicality.

As consumers continue to shift towards electric vehicles, we are likely to see a proliferation of family-oriented EV models prioritizing spaciousness, style, and efficiency. The Zeekr Mix has a chance to become a strong contender in this arena, offering a compelling blend of design, interior space, and all-electric performance.
