Volkswagen just gave enthusiasts and critics a sneak peek of its soon-to-be-released ID.7 Tourer. Though the vehicle is still wrapped in its Indian summer camouflage, we got some details about it and we can guess even more from its sedan sibling.

The first electric wagon from Volkswagen has sizable shoes to fill in. Volkswagen's lineage in the estate market spans over six decades and includes models such as the Variant and the Arteon Shooting Brake. The ID.7 Tourer, VW's inaugural all-electric estate is now set to debut in 2024.

The ID.7 Tourer boasts a remarkable Cd-value of 0.24, just a fraction behind the ID.7's 0.23. That means this wagon is streamlined, aiding in its efficiency and performance.

With the capacity to comfortably fit five passengers, the ID.7 Tourer provides a boot volume of up to 19.2 ft³.Fold the rear seats, and you've got an almost two-meter-long cargo space that can accommodate up to 60.5 ft³. These are numbers the Volkswagen Passat might side-eye with a hint of envy.

The ID.7 Tourer is built upon the MEB platform, Volkswagen Group's modular system, which enables short overhangs and a long wheelbase for extra interior spaciousness.

Volkswagen's plant in Emden, Germany, will have the honor of producing the ID.7 Tourer. This isn't the facility's first rodeo with electric vehicles; it's already home to the production of the ID.4 and ID.7.

Volkswagen remains tight-lipped about the ID.7 Tourer's powertrain specifics. But, given its ties to the ID.7 sedan – which uses a rear-mounted electric motor boasting 282 horsepower output and offers battery options of 77 kWh and 89 kWh – one might say we have an inkling. We'll see how much of a range penalty the estate body shape brings.

You can bet your lunch that the 313 hp AWD version will make it as well and there are rumors that the GTX Touring may be on the cards. Expect the curtains to be fully lifted on the ID.7 Tourer in the coming months, with its European showroom debut slated for early next year.

I doubt the Passat would envy the boot volume of the ID7, as it is significantly lower than both the petrol and hybrid Passat versions. 545 Litres is a bit disappointing to be honest. Still, I'm bored of SUVs and will have a serious look a...
