Xiaomi

Xiaomi's second electric vehicle is the talk of the town, and while we had official photos of it there was very little information about its specifications. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has now shed light on the vehicle's battery and range, setting the stage for a heated competition with the Tesla Model Y.

The YU7 is expected to hit the market in June or July of this year, offering both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The AWD version of the Xiaomi YU7 has some impressive power figures. The front electric motor outputs up to 220 kW (approximately 295 hp), while the rear motor contributes 288 kW (around 386 hp). These motors are paired with ternary lithium battery packs, giving the YU7 a top speed of 157 mph.

Perhaps most interesting are the three distinct CLTC (China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle) cruising ranges for the AWD model, revealed by the MIIT: 466 miles, 472 miles, and 416 miles. The AWD trim has a curb weight of 5,302 lb but the RWD version's weight wasn't listed.

The RWD model is expected to use a rear electric motor with a maximum power output of 235 kW (approximately 315 hp), coupled with lithium iron phosphate battery packs. The RWD variant's top speed is projected to be 149 mph.

The Xiaomi YU7 measures 196.8 inches in length, 78.6 inches in width, and 63 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 118 inches. Spy shots suggest that Xiaomi may offer the YU7 in multiple trims, including Standard, Pro, and Max versions. Recent spy shots revealed the presence of a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, indicating that the YU7 will use Xiaomi's self-developed ADAS. Interior spy shots have shown an ultra-wide screen in the cockpit.

The YU7's launch will follow success of its sister model, the Xiaomi SU7. In January, the SU7 achieved a delivery volume exceeding 20,000 units for the fourth consecutive month. Xiaomi has also been expanding its retail presence, adding 16 stores last month, bringing its total to 216 stores across 64 cities in China.

The introduction of the YU7 should help Xiaomi further boost its sales figures. The company has set an ambitious annual delivery target of 300,000 vehicles in 2025, and the YU7 will be responsible for a chunk of that number. The anticipated starting price for the YU7 is around RMB 250,000 (approximately $34,500).
