VW

If you don’t remember the VW ID Life shown last year don’t worry, we’ll put a photo of it just below. That prototype was well received and VW was working towards production sometime in 2025 but that goal appears to have changed. VW Group has just teased designs of entry-level cars coming in 2025 from Skoda, Cupra and its own brand and none of the teasers look anything like the boxy, retro ID Life we saw last year.

All three images shown, although just sketches, clearly show influence of VW ID.4 and ID.5 in their respective designs. Those sketches represent three models coming to market in 2025 and will be built on the MEB platform albeit simplified front-wheel drive version of it. VW Group aims to have these cars starting at €20,000.

The original ID. Life was retro looking, 4 door crossover presented by VW only last September and was meant to be made from a lot of recycled materials. It was planned to have 62kWh battery and 172kW electric motor good for 6.9 seconds sprint from 0 to 100kmh and a range of 400km, with some off road capabilities. It was a really highly advanced prototype and it sounds strange that VW would pull the plug on it just before it was slated to enter testing prior to production start in 2024.

Whether that is the case or VW simply is adding another vehicle to its future range - remains to be seen. Every automaker now is trying to corner every possible part of the market and VW Group is no different, with 3 brands using the same MEB platform it is highly possible we will see many more models within the next few years, even as many as 6 different new EVs can reach the market in 2025.
