Audi

Update: Eagle-eyed reader Matsoe pointed out that the footage is part of the Audi e-tron GT concept reveal from a few years back. Unfortunately there's nothing to see here then, move along guys and sorry for the mix-up!

After seeing photos and videos of the prototype Audi A6 Avant e-tron, we now have the first video of the interior - and boy, is it amazing!

The first thing that strikes us are the colors and materials, there is no leather but following recent trends we have earthy fabrics everywhere in all shades of brown. We have light creme and brown around the window line and darker browns below. We have dark brown accents on the seats that are mainly done in light brown. The seats have futuristic, sporty shape with high sides, integrated headrests and “e-tron” logo embossed in aluminum inlay.

Let’s talk about the steering wheel. Many manufacturers are walking away from the round wheel and Audi is doing the same - the steering wheel (not really a wheel anymore) is flat on top and the bottom. It’s a three spoke design with the bottom spoke being of the frame type and covered in aluminum - Audi does like its polished aluminum. The side spokes are now touch sensitive with all the usual controls. We can just see the paddles on the steering wheel - most likely to adjust the regenerative braking. Behind the not-really-wheel sits a big display with range and consumption clearly visible on the sides. The middle is taken by the speed display with additional information displayed.

Moving on to the center - the main display is split into two screens. Bottom for aircon and top for infotainment. Audi avoided going full screen like Mercedes, it kept a nice balance between futuristic and classic. All that is surrounded by polished wood with embedded and a lit up logo. We have more wood in the center console, the drive switch is of a rocker type, again Audi takes minimalism and class to a next level. There’s some storage and more polished aluminum.

We get a quick glimpse of the Audi Maestro Sound setup suggesting this is going to be a true opera house on wheels, the doors again are all in lovely shades of brown and covered in most likely eco friendly fabrics. If you decide you want to buy the new A6 e-tron when it eventually arrives, you’ll be happy to know that no cows were harmed in its production, we’re not sure about the trees…

General theme is brown, with lots of capacitive touch buttons, we can see at least one wireless charger for phones, we can see 5 driving modes - efficiency, comfort, dynamic, auto and individual.

Audi vehicles never lacked comfort but this latest experiment has got our attention. The interior is super welcoming, it is like a giant cocoon that wants to keep you warm, safe and comfortable. Is it time to sell all our possessions and start saving up? We'd wait and see how close to this prototype the production car will get.
