During a China EV 100 Forum event, CALB announced a new battery tech that promises to improve not only energy density, but also production capacity. CALB is currently in the top 10 of the world's biggest battery manufacturers, but a long way behind the top 3. With its new promising battery tech, that may very well change in the coming years.

CALB uses a new U-shaped structure, which is world's first. The new design also involves structural and chemical innovations that claim to reduce the current resistance of components by 50% and achieve an energy density of 300 Wh/kg. It also enables 6C charging, which, in theory, the battery allows for a full charge in just 10 minutes.

The reduction in current resistance is also a big deal. The Tabless structure, which is widely used by battery manufacturers right now, has 70% less current flow compared to CALB's new battery and 50% higher structural resistance. CALB's battery also saves on some space, although the improvement is modest - just 3%.

When it comes to manufacturing, CALB's cell allows for a simpler and faster manufacturing process. The company will need 70% fewer welding machines in one production line. Sadly, we don't have a timeline for mass production or availability in actual passenger vehicles.
