Xiaomi Tesla

China's EV insurance registration data for the week of June 17-23 shows a significant increase in production for most automakers, although it's important to keep in mind that production usually ramps up toward the end of the month. Xiaomi, however, is a particularly interesting case, given its recent entry into the market.

According to the data, the company shipped 3,300 SU7 sedans this week, which is a solid 32% increase from last week's 2,500 units. If it's able to maintain this production capacity, Xiaomi might challenge targets of 13,000 vehicles per month or 150,000 vehicles per year.

That's way more than the planned 100,000 SU7s for this year. Xiaomi is struggling to meet demand as it exceeds expectations.

In any case, the company is on track to exceed the initial target of 10,000 vehicles for June.

Other automakers that saw a significant increase in insurance registrations are Tesla, Nio and Xpeng, among others. Tesla got up to 17,400 registrations this week, which is a substantial 49% increase week-over-week. That's in line with the company's plan to export almost all vehicles in the first half of the quarter and then focus on the Chinese market in the second half of Q2. Year-on-year sales for May are up as well - 55,215 units vs. 42,508 units in May 2023, or a healthy 30% jump.
