Denza BYD

BYD's premium brand, Denza, has officially launched its highly anticipated N9 SUV. The Denza N9 will be offered in two trims only - Prestige and Flagship. The N9 comes at a surprisingly aggressive price range of RMB 389,800 to RMB 449,800 ($53,800 to $62,000) undercutting previous estimates.

Denza N9 enters luxury EV market with advanced tech and competitive price

Built on BYD's advanced e-Platform 3.0 (also called "e3"), the Denza N9 uses independent three-motor drive, independent rear-wheel steering, and Cell-to-Body (CTB) battery integration. Despite its size, the N9 offers impressive performance, with a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of just 3.9 seconds. The vehicle also delivers a combined range of 809 miles, with a fuel consumption equivalent of 6.3L/62 miles when the battery is depleted. Why the fuel in an EV? Because Denza features a 2.0L turbocharged petrol generator to recharge its 47 kWh battery pack on the go. The pure electric range is rated at 124 miles.

Handling is as impressive as its performance, with a tight turning radius of 181.89 inches, enabled by features like 360-degree pivot turns and a 15-degree "crab walk" mode. The three electric motors are rated at 680 kW of total output - that's nearly 912 horsepower. The N9 uses the same tri-motor layout we already know from the Z9 sedan.

Denza N9 features a robust 2,000 MPa thermoformed steel cage body, and it gets nine airbags as standard.

BYD has equipped the N9 with its "God's Eye B" autopilot system, which includes LiDAR, cameras, and radar sensors. This system supports map-less city navigation, autonomous intersection traversal, and obstacle avoidance in narrow spaces. Automated parking is standard, and the optional "Spirit Kite" roof-mounted DJI drone system adds a unique dimension to travel.

The N9 sits on the larger end of the scale when it comes to dimensions - it measures 207 inches in length, and it has a 123 inches wheelbase. The "Three-Row Full-Flat Large Bed Mode" allows for versatile seating arrangements, transforming the interior into a cinema, camping setup, or comfortable lounge. The vehicle also includes 46 storage compartments, six seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, and premium features like an 11L smart fridge, five-zone air conditioning, and a 26-speaker Devialet sound system.

The Denza N9 directly competes with other luxury SUVs in the RMB 500,000 price range, including the Aito M9, Li Auto L9, and BMW X7. Compared to the AITO M9, the Denza N9 offers slightly better size, range, and performance. Compared to the Li Auto L9, it distinguishes itself with advanced intelligent features and safety technologies. When stacked against the BMW X7, the Denza N9 highlights BYD's expertise in EVs with lower energy consumption, and a richer intelligent ecosystem.
