Electric Ferrari ready for its October debut, spotted testing in Italy

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna confirmed during the company's financial results presentation that the first electric vehicle from the Italian supercar manufacturer will debut this coming October. While most of the details are unknown, Vigna hinted that the EV will be a unique offering with a distinctive style, great performance, and driving experience synonymous with the Ferrari brand.

Speculation is rife about the EV's design. Spy photos reveal a departure from traditional sports car aesthetics, hinting at a crossover-slash-grand-tourer (GT) form factor. Test vehicles, camouflaged with fake exhaust pipes and synthesized engine noises, have been spotted near Ferrari's headquarters in Maranello.

The move towards electrification, especially for a brand as steeped in tradition as Ferrari, made many enthusiasts apprehensive about the change. A lot of people are undeniably curious to see Ferrari's interpretation of an electric vehicle.

The arrival of the EV is not the only exciting development from Maranello this year. Ferrari plans to launch five other models in 2025, with the highly anticipated 12Cilindri Spider, confirmed during the financial presentation. Another likely addition to the Ferrari portfolio is the successor to the Roma. The front-engined GT, which ceased production in 2024, has been spotted undergoing testing in Italy, heavily disguised.

Despite fluctuations in the global EV market and potential impacts from international trade policies, Vigna reaffirmed that Ferrari's strategic plan, first outlined in 2022, remains unchanged. The company will maintain a diversified powertrain strategy, with petrol, hybrid, and electric vehicles in the pipeline.

2024 was a good year for Ferrari. Its financial performance echoed its strong position in the luxury car market. The company sold 13,752 vehicles, and recorded $2.64 billion in earnings. Looking ahead to 2025, Ferrari projects earnings to climb to $2.77 billion, driven by the launch of its six new models, including its first electric vehicle.
