Renault Announcement

The automotive industry is undergoing a radical transformation, and Renault Group wants to be seen as a major player in this shift towards sustainable mobility. The company promised to achieve carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and globally by 2050. In charge of the ambitious strategy is Ampere, Renault's dedicated entity for electric vehicles, aiming to reach carbon neutrality even sooner by 2035.

Ampere's approach to decarbonization is comprehensive, encompassing the entire lifecycle of a vehicle. From eco-design and resource selection to manufacturing, usage, and end-of-life recycling, every stage undergoes meticulous scrutiny. This holistic strategy is embodied in the Renault Embleme, a demo car unveiled at the 2024 Mondial de l'Auto. This family vehicle is a significant leap towards a low-carbon future, emitting 90% less greenhouse gases (CO2e) over its entire lifecycle compared to equivalent vehicles produced today.

Emblème is Renault’s take on decarbonization

Building on the exploratory studies that started with the Scénic Vision concept in 2022, the Emblème delves deeper into the realm of possibilities. It is a working prototype of a family car that prioritizes spaciousness, comfort, and advanced technology, all while pushing the boundaries of decarbonization.

Every aspect of the Emblème, from its technical and technological features to its design choices, is driven by minimizing its carbon footprint. This is evident in the significant 70% reduction in the carbon footprint of its components. The Emblème uses 50% recycled materials, and nearly all materials used in its construction can be recycled at the end of the vehicle's life.

The Emblème's design philosophy centers around eco-design principles. Engineers and designers collaborated closely to optimize aerodynamics and efficiency, resulting in an elegant shooting brake silhouette. Measuring 4.80 meters in length, the Emblème strikes a balance between stylish aesthetics and a spacious interior.

The cabin offers a contemporary and inviting atmosphere, featuring innovative technologies like the new openR panoramic screen that stretches across the entire dashboard. The Emblème is powered by a rear-mounted electric powertrain that uses both electricity and hydrogen. This combination offers an optimal solution for low-carbon driving, catering to both short and long distances.

Emblème is Renault’s take on decarbonization

Renault is famous for its outrageous concept cars, but the Emblème is different. It looks like something that can come out of a French factory sometime next year. Both the exterior and interior are futuristic but not far out. The use of recycled materials poses the biggest challenge, and the hybrid electric-hydrogen setup can be years away - but overall, this is a surprisingly possible concept car. Well done, Renault, well done, Ampere.
