Volvo

The official reveal of the Volvo ES90, the latest electric sedan from the Swedish brand, is just days away, but as usual - the Internet doesn't really play the waiting game. Courtesy of some impatient people on Volvo's team, we have our first look at the all-new, all-electric ES90.

And the first thing that strikes us is the vehicle's stance. This isn't some low-slung luxury sedan, the new ES90 is more of a hiked-up family cruiser than we could have expected. It very much resembles the Polestar 2 in its ground clearance. It's not bad to have an extra inch or two between the car and the road, but the raised ride height won't be to everyone's liking.

The front of the ES90 is the usual Volvo affair - "Thor" headlights with the daytime-running lights in the shape of a T, a flat and closed-off grille with a large Volvo emblem ensure there's no mistake about what brand this vehicle belongs to. A strong shoulder line gives the car a muscular look, and those big wheel arches make the ES90 look wide and purposeful.

The ES90 will share a lot of its components with the EX90. Since Volvo confirmed it will use 800V architecture, it'll be interesting to see if it will have the same 111 kWh battery as EX90, coupled with two electric motors. There will be a single-motor version with a slightly smaller battery pack, but it will probably launch at some point later. The launch edition likely will use the 510 hp powertrain from the EX90 Performance model, although we wouldn't be surprised if Volvo cranks the power output up a bit for the sedan.

Volvo is promising a 435 miles of range and rapid, 350 kW DC charging. The company claims it will take no more than 20 minutes to replenish the new battery from 10 to 80% SoC. The new ES90 will use the most advanced ADAS from Volvo yet, powered by dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin with a mind-blowing 508 TOPS. Volvo promises an eight-fold improvement in performance compared to previous models.

Volvo did try to keep the ES90 out of the spotlight, hoping to keep the secret until March 5th. The Internet spoiled its plans, but at least we got to see the new sedan, and now we know what to expect. It's a sedan alright, but unlike any Volvo we've seen before. The new ES90 is shaping up to be quite a debut; let's hope it lives up to all the hype.

If its just 20 min for 10-80%, it doesn't need a huge battery pack. 40 kwh is good enough to keep price low
