Lucid

Lucid started production of its Gravity SUV back in early December, and deliveries then started at the end of last year. This is the first non-Tesla car to come with the NACS port built-in. And if you've been following EV-related news over the past few months, you already know what that means.

Indeed, the Gravity is getting access to Tesla's 20,000+ Superchargers in North America on January 31. Since its NACS port is built-in, there's no adapter necessary. The NACS charge port is located on the rear driver's side, allowing for easy access to Tesla Superchargers.

Gravity buyers will also get CCS1 to NACS and SAE J1772 to NACS adapters, and the CCS1 adapter is the first one rated to charge at 500A with 1000V. Thus, you can get to 400kW at a very fast 1000V charger with a CCS1 connector. The Gravity can also charge at sustained speeds of up to 225 kW on 500V architecture fast chargers like Tesla's V3 Superchargers.

Lucid has developed and patented a technology that uses its rear motor drive unit to boost the charging voltage of 500V to match the 926V of the battery pack. This lets the car charge at the highest voltage the charging station is capable of, and "therefore enables the efficient utilization of electrical current and consequent reduction of cable heat", the company says.

Thanks to this tech, the Gravity is fully compatible with both 500V and 1000V charging networks. At peak charging rates, the Gravity's charging curve enables adding 200 miles of range in less than 12 minutes to its 123kWh battery made by Panasonic. This battery, paired with the Gravity's low .24 drag coefficient results in the car's 450 miles of EPA-estimated range.

The Gravity can even charge other EVs, supporting up to 80A at 19.2 kW with the NACS charge port through RangeXchange, with an optional RangeXchange cable.

The Gravity is currently only available to order in the Grand Touring trim, starting at $94,900. The Touring trim will be available to order "in late 2025" from $79,900. The Lucid Air will get access to Tesla Superchargers in North America at some point in the second quarter of the year, so from April to June.

[Thanks Emily, you are the best.] The awkward charge port position is just the tip of the iceberg. It is apparent that both Musk and Rawlinson are too busy to sit in a second row seat, unpack a trunk, or gosh-forbid change a flat. Lucid Air seat...
