Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz shared the complete lineup of models that create the EQ family of electric cars for the 2023 model year. This is the US specific update that introduces many new variations of cars already available to the consumers.

The Mercedes EQS has been available in the US in two versions and now two versions of EQE will join the market. On top of that, SUV versions of both the EQE and EQS are coming to the US as well as the EQS AMG - the most powerful electric sedan from Mercedes. On the other end of the price spectrum, the EQB SUV will ensure the company has its fingers in every slice of the EV market.

Great news is that the production of EQS SUV has kicked off already in Alabama, the EQE SUV production will begin shortly as well making both the cars possibly able to qualify for the new EV federal tax credit, of course depending on their MSRP.

The currently available EQS 450+ and 580 4MATIC will be joined by the new EQS 450 4MATIC. The EQE lineup of 350+ and 500 4MATIC will be joined by 350 4MATIC. The EQB lineup gets a new 250+ model with extended range of 250 miles.

The new EQE AMG will get a 328 Volt Lithium-ion battery pack, two PSM motors with the rear motor getting more power thanks to six-phase design. These are permanently excited synchronous motors based on two windings with three phases each. Thanks to that approach, they can deliver better acceleration and higher top speed.

The EQE AMG will have 677 hp on tap with 1,000 Nm of torque while in the Race Start mode. Host of upgrades include latest MBUX, Navigation System with Augmented Reality, AMG Ride Control+ with adjustable damping, rear-axle steering and of course AMG Sound Experience.

Here is the list of all new EQ family members with expected launch dates and some of the prices:

2023 Model Year Launch Date MSRP
EQS 450 4MATIC Q4 2022 $107,400
EQS 450+ Q4 2022 $104,400
EQS 580 4MATIC Q4 2022 $125,950
EQS AMG Q4 2022 TBA
EQE 350+ Q4 2022 TBA
EQE 350 4MATIC Q4 2022 TBA
EQE 500 4MATIC Q4 2022 TBA
EQE AMG Q4 2022 TBA
EQB 250+ SUV $52,400

Until all the prices have been confirmed, it will be hard to tell which of the new EQ cars will qualify for the revised EV tax credit. One thing for sure - none of the EQS or EQS SUV models will qualify due to their MSRP. EQB 250+ already ticks the box as long as it’s manufactured in the US. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out the fortunes of the rest of the family.
