MG, which is now owned by SAIC, celebrated the launch of Mulan in Shanghai yesterday. The Mulan is known in Europe as MG4 and, while the Mulan was being officially introduced to Shanghai customers, the company celebrated shipping 10,000 MG4 units to Europe.

For the Chinese market, the car will be available in three ranges and four different configurations. The prices start at $18,650 and go all the way to $26,840 at the current exchange rates.

The Mulan will come in 2 and 4-wheel drive versions, the entry model is equipped with a single 125kW electric motor paired with 51kWh battery. The 150kW single motor version gets a bigger 64kWh battery pack and the range topping 315kW twin-motor all-wheel drive version gets the 64kWh battery as well. A 315kW MG Mulan hot-hatch is real.

The quoted driving range for the MG Mulan is 425km, 520km and 460km respectively, the WLTP estimation puts the 64kWh 150kW model at 450km and the 125kW 51kWh version at 350km.

MG is very successful in Europe, in the first six months of this year it sold 45,000 vehicles already and globally it has sold over 1 million cars - not all of them electric of course. The company plans to expand sales to Australia, New Zealand and as far as Mexico, South America and the Middle East by the end of 2023.

The company claims it is present in 90 countries around the world and it has established over 1,800 marketing service outlets. MG says it has sold 3 million vehicles globally since its acquisition by SAIC Motors.
