More details emerge about Zeekr MIX

Zeekr

The words "minivan" and "exciting" don't typically go together. But Zeekr, Geely's premium electric vehicle brand, is determined to change that with its latest creation, the MIX. This futuristic electric minivan blends crossover-inspired style with groundbreaking practicality, challenging our preconceived notions of what a family transporter should be. While some details were revealed yesterday, courtesy of the MIIT filing, there is more to the MIX than meets the eye.

While a full reveal is still on the horizon, leaked details and sightings of camouflaged test models paint an intriguing picture. The Zeekr MIX sports a bold two-tone paint scheme and a striking headlight design that feels more concept car than a family hauler. Its unique dimensions promise the best of both worlds: a long wheelbase (118.4 inches) suggests generous cabin space, while a relatively short overall length (184.6 inches) should ensure easy maneuvering on crowded city streets.

The MIX promises to be a tech powerhouse. Expect a powerful 310 kW electric motor shared with the Zeekr 007 (delivering approximately 420 horsepower) and a cutting-edge 800V system enabling blazing-fast charging times. It's possible multiple battery options will be available, offering a choice between maximum range and a more budget-friendly configuration.

But the real innovation lies within. The MIX appears designed to reimagine the traditional minivan experience. Leaked information hints at front seats that can rotate a full 180 degrees, turning the entire cabin into a lounge-like space when parked.

According to the latest spy shots from China, both doors on the passenger side are of the sliding type. That possibly means no B-pillar and the widest access aperture we have seen in a while. Imagine road trips where kids have ample legroom in the rear while parents face each other for games or work. Or, the MIX could transform into a mobile office or a cozy hangout spot - a perfect camping vehicle.

This isn’t a new idea, Zeekr proposed this solution in its M-Vision concept car which was designed to be a fully autonomous taxi. The company was supposed to be in the final stages of testing and preparing for large-scale production for its first customer Waymo. Truth be told, the MIX looks very much like a production version of the M-Vision and both the sliding doors and rotating seats add weight to this notion. Is MIX the long-awaited autonomous (or not) taxi? Or did Zeekr and Waymo change their plans and Zeekr ended up with a fully developed vehicle but no customer for it, and decided to sell it to the public?

Since this is Zeekr, modern features are part of the package. The MIX boasts a rumored 90-inch digital light curtain (just like the 007), potentially with customizable animations or displays. That’s a minivan equivalent of a high-end gaming PC's RGB light show. Zeekr clearly understands that family vehicles in the 21st century should be both functional and entertaining.

While Zeekr's larger 009 minivan is a luxury-focused affair, the MIX might prove the perfect choice for adventurous families. It promises a blend of style, tech, and unparalleled versatility, unlike other offerings on the market. We wouldn’t be surprised if the MIX lands in Europe as early as next year.
