Tesla's Model Y Performance hasn't been updated in a very long time, unlike the Model 3 Performance which just got refreshed. But that doesn't make it any sort of slouch - it's still got 534 hp and a claimed 0 to 62 mph acceleration of 3.7 seconds.
The Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance, on the other hand, only has 428 hp to work with, but a claimed 0 to 62 mph of 3.6 seconds, beating the Tesla despite its horsepower handicap. So, it would be exciting to see these two battling it out with each other in a drag race, right? Right. Let's have a look then.
The Tesla is slightly heavier than the Volvo, which might explain how the Swedish model can theoretically accomplish the same performance with less power. We say "theoretically" since, if you watched the video above, you'll see that the Tesla won (spoiler alert!), even if only just.
On the first of two runs, the Tesla managed to do 0 to 62 mph in 4.05 seconds, while on the second run the Volvo did 3.9 seconds, but still lost because of what looks like a slower reaction time from the driver.
Overall, these two cars are extremely close when it comes to drag racing, as the spec sheets already implied. If you want to learn more about the Volvo EX30, a recent entrant in the performance EV space, don't miss our in-depth review of it.
