Citroen's quirky Ami Buggy returns with open-air fun

Citroen Announcement

Citroen is bringing back its fun and unusual Ami Buggy, a small electric vehicle with a big personality. This updated version of the open-air EV is now available across Europe, no longer a limited-edition treat. Joining the regular Ami, a cargo version, and a wheelchair-accessible model, the Ami Buggy keeps its unique design and adds some fresh touches.

The Ami Buggy takes inspiration from a concept shown in Paris in 2024. While it doesn't have the same rugged tires or light bar, it still has a cool, open feel. Instead of regular doors, it features black metal tubes on hinges, similar to some off-road vehicles. For those rainy days, zipped covers are available. A retractable sunroof lets in even more of the outside.

Like the standard Ami, the Buggy has a redesigned front and back with round lights and decorative side details that look a bit like those on the classic Citroen 2CV. One noticeable difference is the addition of a good-sized spoiler on the roof and cool-looking 14-inch gold steel wheels. Sadly, the previous model's khaki color is gone.

If you are looking for a bit more flair, your answer is the Ami Buggy Palmeira. This special version sports black and yellow stickers on the wheel arches and windows, matching the yellow Citroen logos. Inside, you'll find yellow accents on the storage boxes, a bag hook, floor mats, door nets, and even the smartphone holder. As a fun extra, Palmeira buyers get a little robot figure named Andy with a bouncy head to sit on the dashboard.

Underneath its unique looks, the Ami Buggy has the same parts as the regular Ami. It's powered by a small 8-horsepower electric motor, allowing it to reach a top speed of 28 mph. The 5.5 kWh battery provides a range of 47 miles on a single charge, and you can plug it into a standard 220V outlet to charge it up in about four hours.

The updated Citroen Ami lineup also includes the Ami Cargo, a light commercial vehicle with up to 12 ft³ of cargo space, and the Ami for All, designed to be accessible for wheelchair users. The standard Ami buyers can choose from Spicy, Icy, and Minty color packs to personalize their ride with colorful wheel covers, stickers, and interior details that they can install themselves.

Orders for the entire updated Citroen Ami range open on May 6th across Europe. The base Ami starts at $8,870, while the Ami Color Pack begins at $9,310. The more adventurous Citroen Ami Buggy has a starting price of $10,640, and the most expensive Palmeira trim starts at $11,090.
