Xiaomi SU7 facelift on the way, but it might bring a price hike

Xiaomi

Rumors are swirling around that Xiaomi EV is planning to update its first electric car very soon. The Chinese electronics giant only entered the car market last year with the SU7. Now, reports from China suggest a new and improved version of this electric sedan will arrive in the second quarter of 2026. The refresh is supposed to fix the recent drop in sales and bring new features to drivers who want a high-tech ride.

The biggest news regarding the updated Xiaomi SU7 is the price. Major automotive reviewers in China, including Han Lu, suggest the price will go up by RMB 20,000 - that's about $2,840. Currently, the car starts at RMB 215,900. With the increase, the new price will be around RMB 235,900 ($33,500), which is quite interesting because it puts the car at almost the exact same price as the Tesla Model 3, which starts at RMB 235,500 ($33,400) in China.

Why is Xiaomi EV making these changes now? The company saw a big dip in sales for the original SU7 recently. In November, Xiaomi delivered 12,520 units of the sedan, nearly a 46 percent drop compared to the same time last year. That number was also about 16 percent lower than the month before. It seems many customers are choosing different electric cars or waiting for the newest technology to arrive before they spend their money.

Part of the reason for the lower SU7 sales is competition from within the same company. Xiaomi launched the larger YU7 in June, and this SUV is proving to be very popular with families. In November, the YU7 delivered 33,729 units, which is a record for that model. Since the SUV is selling so well, Xiaomi needs to give the SU7 sedan a "facelift" to make it more attractive to buyers again.

The 2026 SU7 will likely include important hardware and software upgrades to justify the higher cost. We do not have every specific detail yet, but these updates usually include better batteries, faster computers, and nicer interior materials. It seems that Xiaomi wants to prove that its electric cars are just as good as Tesla's famous Model 3, and by matching the price, it is telling the world that its technology is worth every penny.

Xiaomi EV has a very busy schedule ahead. The company plans to release three more models to expand its lineup. These include a large SUV called the YU9, a sporty version of the YU7 called the GT, and a longer version of the sedan named the SU7 L. The YU9 is very interesting because it might be the first EREV from Xiaomi - it will use a small gas engine to charge the battery while driving.
