Porsche fills the gap with the new 2026 Cayenne S Electric

Porsche is growing its family of electric cars with a new mid-range model. The 2026 Porsche Cayenne S Electric made its debut, sitting right between the standard model and the high-performance Turbo version. For drivers who want more speed than the base model but do not need the extreme power of the Turbo, this new trim might be the perfect fit. It offers a mix of everyday usefulness and sports car speed that Porsche fans expect.

The Porsche Cayenne S Electric has a dual-motor system that sends power to all four wheels. Under normal driving conditions, it delivers 400 kW (536 hp). But when you use the Launch Control feature, that number jumps up to 490 kW (657 hp). This extra boost allows the large vehicle to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, and it will keep accelerating until it hits a top speed of 155 mph.

To keep things cool when driving fast, Porsche uses a special oil-cooling system for the rear motor. Instead of just cooling the outside, the oil pulls heat directly from the parts carrying electricity. This helps the car maintain high performance without overheating. The car also uses advanced silicon-carbide parts in its power system. These parts can handle a lot of electricity - up to 620 amps - which makes the SUV more efficient.

Battery life and charging are big deals for EVs. The Cayenne S Electric comes with a large 113 kWh battery pack. If you find a very fast charger, you can fill the battery from 10% to 80% in less than 16 minutes thanks to the support for charging speeds up to 400 kW. For convenience, the US version gets the NACS-style plug on the driver's side and a J1772 port on the passenger side. Porsche even includes an adapter for CCS chargers so you can plug in almost anywhere.

The base Cayenne Electric is no slouch, but the S model is a clear step up. The entry-level version makes 435 hp and takes 4.5 seconds to reach 60 mph. It also has a lower top speed of 143 mph. By choosing the S trim, drivers get much faster acceleration and more high-tech hardware borrowed from the top-tier Turbo model.

Buyers can make their Cayenne S Electric even better with several add-ons. One option is the Sport Chrono Package, which includes a "push-to-pass" button. Pressing this gives the car an extra 90 kW (120 hp) for ten seconds, making it easy to overtake other vehicles on the highway. Other options include ceramic brakes for better stopping and an active suspension system that makes the ride smoother or sportier, depending on your mood.

On the outside, the S model stands out with unique trim pieces painted in Volcano Grey Metallic. It also comes with 20-inch Cayenne S Aero wheels designed with efficiency in mind. Inside, Porsche offers a new "Interior Style Package" which uses black leather with bright green stitching and accents. There are 13 different paint colors to choose from, so owners can make their electric cars look exactly how they want.

The 2026 Porsche Cayenne S Electric is available to order now with a starting price of $126,300 in the US. You also have to pay a $2,350 delivery fee. This makes the S model $17,300 more expensive than the base version. People in the United States should start seeing these SUVs on the road in late summer 2026. Shortly after, the massive 1,139 hp Turbo version will also arrive to complete the lineup.
