Xiaomi unveils Crimson Red YU7 GT ahead of official launch

Xiaomi

Technology giant Xiaomi published new official images of its highly anticipated performance vehicle, the Xiaomi YU7 GT. Released on May 15, these fresh pictures give the public a clear look at a brand-new exterior paint option called Crimson Red. The electronics company turned automaker plans to officially launch this SUV by the end of May 2026 as a direct attempt to combine family usability with track-ready performance in the competitive world of modern EVs.

When it comes to raw performance numbers, the new Xiaomi has plenty to put the industry on notice. The YU7 GT delivers a massive 990 horsepower from its electric powertrain. According to the company, this setup allows the heavy family vehicle to reach an impressive top speed of 186 mph. For drivers who worry about driving distance, Xiaomi claims the model can travel up to 438 miles on a full charge. This rating uses the official China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

The newly released images show off the outside of the vehicle, but Xiaomi also revealed a matching interior theme that it calls Track Red. This cabin features a bold, dual-tone look that mixes deep black materials with vibrant red accents. To make the model feel special, designers added exclusive GT embroidery on the front seats. Passengers will also see a distinctive GT badge sitting right on the dashboard on their side of the car. The colorful theme adds a dramatic flair, but the general cabin design keeps the same practical layout as the regular Xiaomi YU7 model.

Potential customers will get their first chance to look at the new vehicle very soon. Xiaomi announced that physical display units in the new Crimson Red color will start arriving at local dealerships on May 16. The company wants to move fast to get people into all 268 retail stores spread across 82 cities in China before the second half of the month. This aggressive distribution strategy is familiar - Xiaomi is treating its car business just like its smartphone business by flooding stores with product immediately.

To prove that this vehicle is a serious sports machine, the company spent a lot of time testing prototypes at the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack in Germany. Engineers also performed extensive chassis tuning on the German track to make sure the vehicle handles well. Using race tracks for marketing is a familiar move for the Chinese tech firm.

Xiaomi previously used the exact same strategy when its SU7 Ultra sedan completed a lap at the Nürburgring in 2025. That vehicle recorded a lap time of 6 minutes and 22.091 seconds, making it one of the fastest production electric cars in the world at that time. Now, the brand hopes that some of that racing magic will help sell its larger utility vehicles.

Historically, car companies used the GT name for fast vehicles that could travel long distances in total luxury. Xiaomi claims its new SUV fits this description perfectly. But the launch of this expensive performance model arrives at a difficult moment for the brand. The regular Xiaomi YU7 lineup first entered the market in June 2025 and enjoyed a great start. It achieved massive sales early on, moving 39,089 units in December 2025 and 37,869 units in January 2026.

Unfortunately for the brand, that early excitement is starting to fade. Recent information from the China EV DataTracker shows that sales for the standard YU7 fell sharply to just 9,876 units in April 2026. That number represents a painful 27.2 percent drop when compared directly to the sales figures from March. Previously, monthly sales easily exceeded 20,000 units during both February and March of 2026. Falling below the 10,000-unit mark is a clear warning sign that buyers are starting to look at other options in the crowded electric cars segment.

Xiaomi needs the new GT model to generate fresh interest and bring people back into showrooms. The company has still not given out the official final pricing or exact battery pack specifications for the YU7 GT, but we believe the price will land somewhere between 450,000 and 500,000 yuan. We will know all the final details when the company holds its official launch event at the end of May. Until then, Xiaomi is banking on 990 horsepower and bright red paint to get its automotive sales moving in the right direction again.
