BMW Announcement

BMW just announced the new iX4 coupe crossover, offering very similar dimensions and specs to the iX3, but with an SUV Coupe body, enabling better aerodynamics and longer range.

The iX40 will launch in two variants in Europe - iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive, with only the latter available in the US. The release time frame is sometime in March 2027. Later on, BMW will bring the most powerful iX4 M60 trim.

The 40 xDrive version in Europe will come with an 82.6 kWh battery and 368 hp peak output from the two electric motors (all-wheel-drive), enabling a WLTP range of 396 miles. The maximum DC charging rate on that one is 300 kW, adding 187 miles of the WLTP range in just 10 minutes of charging.

The 50 xDrive matches the iX3 50 xDrive with its 112.3 kWh battery (108.7 kWh usable) along with the 463-horsepower, dual-motor setup. The WLTP range of this trim is 514 miles, which is even longer than the iX3 50 xDrive.

The maximum DC charging power here is 400 kW, resulting in 240 miles of added range in 10 minutes. The maximum AC power input is 15.4 kW.

And as for the iX4 M60 model expected to arrive in late 2027, BMW is quoting 603 hp of peak output along with the same 112.3 kWh battery. No range figures were disclosed, though.

Dimensions-wise, the iX4 is almost identical to the iX3, measuring 4,783 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 2,896 mm in wheelbase. The only difference is the iX4 sits 38 mm lower than the iX3, measuring 1,608 mm in height.

Since it's a Neue Klasse model, the interior isn't much different from what we've already seen from the iX3. It has a 17.9-inch central infotainment display, a pillar-to-pillar display, a 3D heads-up display and a voice assistant ready to take your orders.

All iX4 trims also come with V2L and V2H functionalities as standard, but the adapters for the two features are different and are sold separately.

The sporty SUV ships with the Adaptive M Suspension system, sport steering and limited-slip rear differential as standard equipment. You also get a fixed glass roof and the M Sport package with various style elements and a set of 20-inch M-branded wheels. The M Sport braking system is also on the menu.

BMW didn't give any exact prices, but the vehicle will be produced at the new Debrecen factory in Hungary, which is also home to the BMW iX3.
