Fiat is reincarnating the Multipla - the family vehicle that always produces strong opinions when its design comes up in a conversation. The Multipla successor comes in the form of a concept called "Multiplay." The name is a reference to the versatility of the new vehicle - it's an SUV, minivan and a pickup all at the same time. A modular car, if you wish.
As you can see, the exterior draws inspiration from the original Multipla, but the modern-day LEDs make it look more like a spaceship of sorts. But unlike the Multipla, the Multiplay's rear section slides in and out, transforming the SUV-like minivan into a compact pickup truck.
When the back is retracted, the minivan mode can accommodate 6+1 passengers. Six of those seats are suitable for kids and adults, but the extra seating is actually a "pet passenger seat." It also offers mounting points so you can attach a child's seat. Unfortunately, you lose some cargo room in this configuration.
Here's how the pickup mode comes into play. The back seats slide forward, and the cabin can accommodate four people, leaving more space for luggage or for the "petsenger." This mode also has a built-in spoiler that acts as a bike rack. Pretty neat.
Despite the 4-seat configuration in pickup mode, the vehicle should feel pretty spacious. The panoramic roof is a nice touch, and so is the front passenger seat that can swivel toward the passengers at the back. It can even turn into a lounge-like chair.
Fiat didn't give much more detail regarding the Multiplay concept - we don't know when to expect a production-ready car based on it, and we don't know if it's going to be an EV, but the long wheelbase and the short front with no grille strongly indicate that's going to be the case.
