Nissan

The third-generation Nissan Leaf is coming soon and the carmaker is feeding us small pieces of the new specs and features. In the first episode, Nissan talked about the design and interior, while in the latest installment of Nissan Leaf Insights, we learn more about what makes this car tick.

Nissan reveals more details about the upcoming third-generation Leaf crossover

We'll start with the new, smaller, quieter and more efficient electric motor, which can produce up to 214 hp and 355 Nm of torque, depending on the configuration. The new motor's vibrations and sound emissions are considerably reduced, providing a more pleasant traveling experience. It's supposed to be 2 decibels quieter in urban environments than its predecessor.

The new cabin is also promised to be considerably more spacious since the engineers were able to fit the whole HVAC unit under the hood instead of behind the dashboard.

The multi-link rear suspension is not just smoother, but also prevents excessive body roll by providing 66% more lateral stiffness.

Lastly, Nissan discusses thermal management and how engineers optimized everything inside the vehicle. For instance, the heat produced by the on-board charger warms up the battery. This is possible thanks to the new liquid-cooled batteries feature a thermal recovery system that harvests heat from the on-board charger.
