Ram Announcement

Ram's entrant in the EV pickup truck wars finally went fully official today, as the brand's response to Ford's F-150 Lightning. And what a response this is!

The Ram 1500 REV targets a range of 500 miles (804 km) on one charge with its insanely massive 229 kWh battery. There's a "small" battery option too, which is more than double what most EVs offer at 168 kWh. This one is expected to offer "only" 350 miles (563 km) of range. But wait, there's more.

If somehow you can locate a 350 kW DC charger, you can add 110 miles (177 km) of range in just 10 minutes. If you're wondering about performance, Ram is targeting a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 4.4 seconds, with 654 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. The truck has dual 250 kW electric drive modules (EDM), that combine the motor, gearbox and inverter, and is thus all-wheel drive. The front axle EDM has auto wheel-end disconnect allowing the front wheels to spin freely in certain conditions, while the rear axle has an electronic-locking differential.

The Ram 1500 REV's maximum towing capacity is 14,000 pounds (6,350 kg), and its maximum payload capacity is 2,700 pounds (1,224 kg). The truck has support for vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-home, and vehicle-to-grid bi-directional charging, with an on-board power panel in the bed providing 7.2 kW and an on-board power panel in the frunk providing 3.6 kW.

The truck is built on the all-new STLA Frame, designed for full-size EVs featuring a body-on-frame design. The STLA Frame is wider in the middle to efficiently incorporate the battery pack. The Ram 1500 REV is said to be "the segment's most slippery truck" with a drag coefficient of 0.34.

The EV comes with standard, active-level four-corner air suspension with adaptive damping. There's Hands-free Active Driving Assist built-in, as well as an automated parking system.

Frunk capacity is 15 cubic feet, and on the inside there's a 14.5-inch center touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch passenger screen, a digital rearview mirror, a head-up display, and a Klipsch audio system. The passenger screen is only visible to the passenger and offers three major functions: Co-Pilot (navigation, device management), entertainment (via HDMI), and the ability to view the exterior vehicle cameras. There's an HDMI plug to connect a phone or tablet, to turn the screen into a mirrored extension of that device.

As the Ram 1500 REV is referred to as a 2025 model-year, we don't expect to see any units on the market earlier than 2024, and most likely late 2024.

That's some terrible efficiency. God forbid people just buy practical smaller trucks instead of giant pavement princesses.
