Toyota

Toyota is giving its bZ4X electric SUV a major overhaul for the new model year. The updates address key concerns, including range, power, and towing capacity, making the bZ4X a far more compelling option for potential buyers.

A major highlight of the refreshed bZ4X is the introduction of two new battery options. The base model now features a 57.7 kWh battery, powering a 167 horsepower (123 kW) front-wheel-drive motor. So the new entry-level version can achieve a WLTP range of 277 miles.

If you want more range and power, Toyota offers a 73.1 kWh battery. This larger battery is available in two configurations: a 224 horsepower (165 kW) front-wheel-drive model with a 356 miles range, and a top-tier all-wheel-drive version boasting 343 horsepower (252 kW) and a 323 miles range. The all-wheel-drive bZ4X can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.1 seconds.

Toyota made big improvements to the battery technology, increasing energy density and cell count in both packs. The electric motors also have been upgraded, and Toyota used silicon carbide semiconductors for the first time. These enhancements contribute to improved efficiency and performance.

Additionally, the 2026 bZ4X now features battery pre-conditioning, which optimizes charging in cold weather. The onboard AC charger on higher-spec models has been upgraded to 22 kW, but the peak DC charging speed remains at 150 kW. Toyota estimates a 10-80% charge time to be approximately 30 minutes.

The final improvement is the doubling of the bZ4X's towing capacity to 3,307 lb, making it finally a viable option for those who need to haul cargo. The exterior of the new bZ4X sees only minor aerodynamic tweaks, but the interior has been significantly updated. The main changes involve a simplified digital instrument cluster and a new 14-inch touchscreen with integrated climate controls.
