Rivian

Rivian currently offers the R1T Truck and R1S SUV with a quad-motor engine that generates 835 horsepower. However, the company is developing a dual-motor version that is expected to be released in the coming year. They have recently shared new details about this option.

Rivian has announced that its Dual-Motor AWD system for the R1T Truck and R1S SUV will be available next year, with two options available: a base version that can reach 600 horsepower and go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, or an upgraded version that reaches around 700 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. This is faster than the quad-motor version, which takes approximately three seconds to reach 60 mph.

Progress report: When our Dual-Motor AWD system is introduced for R1T and R1S next year, you’ll be able to choose a standard version capable of 600 hp and 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, or an enhanced version that increases horsepower to approx. 700 hp and 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. pic.twitter.com/Lz4FE06tIe

According to information on the Rivian website, both versions of the dual-motor model will have a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. Customers will be able to choose between a standard battery pack that allows for a driving range of over 260 miles, or a larger pack that currently provides 328 miles of range on the quad-motor configuration. It is likely that the dual-motor model with the larger battery pack will have an even longer range on a single charge

Rivian is developing a larger battery pack for the R1T Truck that will offer more than 400 miles of range, but this has been delayed until at least 2024. The R1S SUV, being shorter in length, cannot accommodate the max battery pack. Additionally, Rivian has announced that it will no longer allow customers to pair the max battery with the quad-motor system, as stated in an email to reservation holders effective immediately.

The dual-motor versions of the R1T Truck and R1S SUV will start at $67,500 and $72,500, respectively, although some early reservation holders are locked in at a lower price. These prices are lower than the previous pricing for the quad-motor versions, which had to be raised due to an increase in raw material costs.

Rivian has not yet announced a specific release date for the dual-motor versions of the R1T Truck and R1S SUV. Therefore, those who have made reservations should continue to check their email for updates on the availability of these models. It is important to keep in mind that the release date may be subject to change, and it is always a good idea to check with the manufacturer for the most up-to-date information on the availability of their products.
