SAIC and Huawei to jointly develop new electric SUV

Two major Chinese players in the automotive and technology sectors are joining forces once again to develop a new electric SUV. SAIC Motor, one of China's largest automakers, is reportedly partnering with Huawei to develop a new EV codenamed "ES37."

This is not the first time SAIC and Huawei have collaborated on an EV project. The two companies have previously worked together on several SUVs, with Huawei supplying its advanced car solutions and SAIC responsible for the manufacturing process.

The ES37, believed to be the Feifan RC7 (possibly related to Feifan R7), will be the third model in SAIC's Feifan brand. It is expected to be a mid-size pure electric SUV with a price tag of around RMB 200,000 ($28,000). The vehicle will launch in the second quarter of this year, potentially showcasing the latest technology from both companies.

Huawei's contribution to the ES37 will reportedly be in the form of its smart driving solutions. Although specific details remain under wraps, it is very likely that they will include advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous driving capabilities, and connectivity.

The partnership between SAIC and Huawei is part of the growing trend of collaboration between automakers and tech companies. EVs are getting ever so more advanced, and automakers are looking for technology partners to help them with solutions they can't develop on their own.
