Skoda is giving the world another peek of its upcoming electric station wagon. The Czech automaker has released a teaser image of its new "Vision O" concept car, a direct preview of what will become the first-ever all-electric Skoda Octavia, one of Europe's most popular family cars. The full concept will be unveiled at the Munich IAA mobility show this September.
The single image released shows the profile of a long, low-slung wagon that prioritizes style more than any Skoda wagon before it. The design appears both sleek and athletic, with a sharply raked windshield flowing into a roofline that gently slopes toward the back. The rear tailgate is angled aggressively, a move that likely helps the car cut through the air more efficiently, even if it might trade a little bit of maximum cargo space for its good looks. This new design direction is part of what Skoda calls its "Modern Solid" language, intended to define the next generation of its electric cars.
The silhouette reminds us a lot of the Audi A6 e-tron Avant, but unique front and rear LED lights will ensure no one mistakes this electric wagon for anything but a Skoda. The brand has built its reputation on offering practical, spacious, and clever vehicles, and this new electric Octavia will simply wrap those values in a much more dynamic package. For families who need the utility of a wagon but desire the modern appeal of an EV, the production version of the Vision O could be a good option.
Underneath its stylish new body, the electric Octavia will share its foundation with the upcoming Volkswagen ID.Golf. Both electric cars will be built on the VW Group's advanced SSP (Scalable Systems Platform) architecture. A key feature of this platform is its 800-volt electrical system. For the average driver, this simply means significantly faster charging times when connected to a compatible high-power DC fast charger.
Skoda Octavia buyers have always quietly believed they were getting a better, bigger Golf for less money. It seems that friendly family disagreement is set to continue into the electric era. While sharing a platform with the electric Golf, the Skoda Octavia EV will feature a longer wheelbase and a greater overall length. In practical terms, it means more legroom for passengers and a larger trunk for cargo. Following Skoda's established strategy, it is also expected to be priced slightly below its Volkswagen counterpart, reinforcing its position as the value-oriented choice within the group.
But if you were hoping to get your hands on an electric wagon from Skoda, you'll have to be very patient. The production model is expected to arrive some time in 2029 - a whole four years from now. When it does arrive, customers will likely have a choice between single-motor, front-wheel-drive models and more powerful dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configurations.
