Subaru

In the fast-evolving world of electric cars, even established makers need to resort to collaborations to keep up. Subaru, has announced it will stick with Toyota to create its next EVs as it.

Jeff Walters, Subaru of America's spokesperson, revealed that the next three EVs in Subaru's lineup would be "alliance vehicles," suggesting a deeper collaboration with Toyota and potentially other partners. While he didn't delve into specifics, he assured that Subaru's upcoming portfolio would be the most comprehensive and robust in the company's history.

Subaru asks Toyota for help with the 2025 Forester Hybrid

In the meantime the two companies will also collaborate on the 2025 Forester - a plug-in hybrid SUV with Toyota-sourced battery and electric components integrated with Subaru's hallmark boxer engine.

Subaru's decision to collaborate with Toyota isn't surprising, as the two automakers have already partnered on their sole EVs - the bZ4X / Solterra. Previously they also joined forces to create the BRZ and GT86 sports cars and the Crosstrek plug-in hybrid.

As we anticipate these new releases, it's essential to address the notion of badge-engineered vehicles. While some may fear that Subaru's partnership with Toyota could result in vehicles lacking unique character, it's worth noting that collaboration often leads to innovation. By leveraging Toyota's expertise in hybrid and electric technology, Subaru can focus on delivering the ruggedness and reliability their customers expect.
