Subaru plans to launch four new EVs by the end of 2026

Subaru

Subaru announced the Solterra last year, but its first EV will be far from its last. Today during an earnings call, the company revealed plans to launch four more EV crossovers until the end of 2026. The new models will be offered in the US, which isn't surprising considering the fact that that market makes up about 70% of the company's sales.

Given that, however, it's interesting that, unlike many other car makers, Subaru does not plan to assemble any future models in the States. Thus, its EVs won't be able to afford people the $7,500 tax credit under the Inflation Reduction Act.

The company feels like this decision won't impact its sales in the US, since its customers "are quality customers", who buy their cars mostly with cash, with low loan and lease rates compared to other brands.

Subaru wants to sell 200,000 EVs annually across the world from 2026, and 400,000 from 2028. In order to achieve those goals, it will add a dedicated EV assembly line at its Yajima, Japan plant that will churn out 200,000 units from 2026, and another such line at its Oizumi plant that will double that from 2027.
