Tesla Roadster might become an April Fools' joke

Tesla

The Cybertruck was supposed to keep the Tesla hype train going for many years, but it failed at that rather miserably. Then came the Robotaxi - anything to keep the share price high. And while that one hasn't necessarily failed yet, it's also not a car intended for you to buy.

So Tesla needed a new hype driver, and it's obviously the new Roadster, the introduction of which has now been delayed again, presumably to April 1, 2026, but at this point Elon Musk is just saying the quiet part out loud: "That demo event will be April 1 of next year. I have some deniability because I can say I was just kidding". That's an actual quote from Tesla's shareholder meeting, by the way.

Tesla Roadster might become an April Fools joke

So it's either happening on April 1 or it was all a joke. Speaking of jokes, Musk insists on teasing the fact that the Roadster will "fly", whatever that will end up meaning (remember, this is the guy who invented "full self-driving" which isn't self-driving).

The Roadster is also supposedly "crazier" than any vehicle featured in the Bond movie franchise, and - seriously, at this point Musk isn't even trying to keep a straight face - "we are actually tentatively aiming for April 1, for what I think will be the most exciting, whether it works or not, demo of any product".

"Whether it works or not". That's a lot to look forward to, isn't it? But fret not, for Musk continues: "I guess production is probably about 12-18 months after that". He guesses, you see, as if he's sat on the sidelines and not involved with the project at all. As if he isn't running the company supposed to make this car.
