Tesla wants to improve its range estimates by taking into account tire pressure and battery temperature

Tesla

Range anxiety is real with EVs, and it can definitely be triggered by inaccurate live range estimates shown by the car. Tesla knows this, which is why it's working on integrating a lot more data into its range estimates.

With its newest software update, 2022.20.7, it's taking into account tire pressure, battery heating and cooling, energy loss to phone charging and 12V accessories, and even air density.

wow 2022.20.7 seems to go into insane details to improve range predictions.
Even tire pressure is taken into account (amongst many-many other extra variables just added). Also takes into account energy loss to phone charging and 12V accessories, air density, battery heat/cool,...

Range calculations are obviously difficult, and taking into account as many factors as possible which could, even minutely, influence the final result does sound like a good way to improve prediction accuracy.

All of these additions come after Tesla in 2018 started taking into account weather and elevation changes in its range estimates. Those made the predictions better, but still far from entirely accurate. Earlier this year, the company added crosswind, headwind, humidity and ambient temperature through a software update. Hopefully the new set of parameters taken into account will improve things even further.

It's somewhat surprising to find out, in this roundabout way, that up until now Tesla's range estimates didn't take into account battery heating and cooling, but now it's finally there.
