AUDI E7X officially launches in China

AUDI

AUDI - the Chinese brand that uses capital letters instead of the famous four rings - just added the new E7X to its official website and app. This large SUV is the second vehicle from a partnership between Audi and the Chinese company SAIC. The vehicle looks like a futuristic spaceship, but it is designed for families who want a mix of luxury and high-tech speed.

You might notice something missing right away - this car does not have the silver circles on the front. Instead, the word "AUDI" lights up as part of a plan for the Chinese market. The brand started in November 2024 to focus only on EVs. The E7X follows the E5 Sportback, a sleek wagon. After being seen driving through freezing snow for endurance testing last month, the E7X is finally ready for the spotlight. It will make its grand public debut at the Beijing Auto Show later this year.

Size matters when it comes to family SUVs, and the AUDI E7X excels here. It measures 198.8 inches long, 78.6 inches wide, and 67.3 inches tall, and it has a 120.5 inches wheelbase. This means there should be plenty of legroom for the five people sitting inside. On the outside, buyers can choose between 21-inch or 22-inch wheels. These wheels have a clever trick: the center caps have tiny weights and no matter how fast you drive, the AUDI name stays perfectly upright and never spins. It's an idea borrowed from Rolls-Royce, clearly indicating AUDI wants to be seen as a luxury brand.

The face of the E7X looks different from most electric cars on the road today. It uses something called a "ring light surface." The headlights are high-definition projectors with a million pixels and they can project images or warnings onto the road in front of the car. The LED lights also have a unique dot pattern that makes the car easy to spot at night.

Even the basic version of the E7X with rear-wheel drive has 300 kW, which is about 402 horsepower. If you want more speed, the all-wheel-drive version uses two motors to deliver a total output of 500 kW, or 670 horsepower. This version can go from zero to 62 mph in 3.97 seconds. If you find a road with no speed limit, it can reach a top speed of 143 mph.

The E7X carries a 109 kWh battery made by CATL. On a full charge, the car can travel up to 467 miles, according to the Chinese testing standards. While real-world driving might be a bit less, it'll still be a long way before you need to stop for a top-up. The car also uses a 900V high-voltage system so you won't have to wait around for hours at a charging station to get back on the road.

If you look at the roof of the new AUDI, you will see a small bump - that is a LiDAR sensor. It works like a laser radar to help the car see everything around it. The car uses Flywheel autonomous driving software from Momenta. This system helps the car drive itself on highways and even on busy city streets. It can navigate turns and traffic, though the driver still needs to pay attention.

The AUDI E7X represents a new chapter for Audi and Volkswagen Group. By teaming up with SAIC, they are using new technology to build EVs faster. The cabin is built for five people, making it a practical choice for daily tasks or long road trips. With its glowing logos and upright wheel caps, it definitely wants to be noticed.
