Volkswagen

Volkswagen introduced its latest EV to the Chinese electric vehicle market. The ID.7 Vizzion, a mid-size electric sedan, is priced at RMB 237,777 (nearly $33,300) and is set to compete with established players like the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Han EV. The sleek sedan is the latest addition to VW's ID family and marks its second global model based on the MEB platform, following the success of the ID.4 - and essentially is a rebranded ID.7.

In the competitive Chinese EV market, the ID.7 Vizzion finds itself among tough rivals. At 195.1 inches in length, it may be slightly smaller than BYD Han EV, but it's a big longer than the Tesla Model 3. The BYD Han EV measures 196.7 inches in length, and is currently priced from RMB 209,800 in China. The Model 3, on the other hand, measures 185.8 inches, and is priced from RMB 261,400 in China.

Volkswagen's ID series EVs are produced through its joint ventures in China. FAW-Volkswagen offers the ID.series as the ID.4 Crozz and ID.6 Crozz, while SAIC-Volkswagen's ID series includes the ID.4 X and ID.6 X, as well as the ID.3.

Interestingly, the ID.7 Vizzion's pre-sale price of RMB 237,777 yuan (around $33,300) came as a surprise to many. Prior speculations suggested a starting price ranging from $25,000 to $30,000, making the actual pre-sale price higher than anticipated.

The ID.7 Vizzion maintains the signature design language of the VW ID family, featuring a hatchback body and integrated hidden door handles on the sides. The vehicle also sports a SkyView canopy on the roof, designed to block 99% of ultraviolet rays and over 83% of heat, enhancing the driving experience.

There are two versions available - single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor four-wheel drive systems. The rear-wheel drive model delivers an impressive CLTC range of 399 miles, while the four-wheel drive variant offers a CLTC range of 354 miles. The initial pre-sale version is the single-motor rear-wheel drive, boasting a peak power of 150 kW and a peak torque of 229 lb-ft.

Stepping inside, the ID.7 Vizzion boasts a 15-inch floating screen and an AR HUD guidance system. The vehicle is powered by the new-generation car system ID OS 2.0, complemented by iFlytek voice technology. Among its features is the Air hidden air-conditioning system, capable of adjusting air direction and air volume based on light changes. The ID.7 Vizzion also comes equipped with a Harman Kardon audio system featuring 16 speakers.

The ID.7 Vizzion integrates an assisted driving system 3.0, which introduces an interactive lane change assistance function and supports autonomous parking. The model also comes equipped with Travel Assist 3.0, an advanced assisted driving system supporting adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping, and front collision avoidance automatic braking, and features the ID. Mate AI virtual voice assistant.
