Volkswagen VW Announcement

Following a teaser a few days ago, today Volkswagen has made the ID. Buzz GTX official. If the other GTXs are hot hatches, is this a hot van? We'll let you decide.

The GTX is impressive for a van, packing two electric motors that deliver a total of 250kW / 340 PS / 335 hp to make this the "most powerful Bulli of all time", which should accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds.

It comes with two new batteries. The standard wheelbase GTX gets a 79kWh net capacity one, while the extended wheelbase (by 9.8 inches) version will have 86kWh net capacity. You can charge the smaller battery at up to 185kW DC, and at that rate going from 10% to 80% takes about 26 minutes. The bigger battery can take 200kW DC charging, in order to match the 26-minute time from 10% to 80% despite its higher capacity.

The normal wheelbase ID. Buzz GTX can tow 3,968 lb, while the extended wheelbase van's towing capacity is 3,527 lb. Thanks to the all-wheel drive system's "great traction advantages", VW says this is an ideal vehicle for boat or horse trailers, which are often moved on slippery ground.

The standard wheelbase version will be available as a five-seater or a six-seater with two individual seats in the second and third rows. The long-wheelbase ID. Buzz GTX will have an additional seven-seat option with a three-seat bench in the second row and two individual seats in the third row. The seats in the second row can be moved longitudinally by 5.9 inches in the standard wheelbase model and 7.9 inches in the long wheelbase van.

The luggage compartment volume is 39.6 ft³ to 75 ft³ in the normal wheelbase version with five seats. The extended GTX gets 47.3 ft³ to 87.2 ft³ with five seats, and 10.8 ft³ even with seven seats.

Inside, there's a 12.9-inch central touchscreen, and an illuminated touch bar for temperature and volume control. VW's IDA voice assistant features ChatGPT integration. There's also an option for a panoramic sunroof with smart glass that can be electronically switched from transparent to opaque. This is the largest panoramic sunroof ever used in a VW.

The GTX has a black headliner, and the seats have "the specific GTX design", "enhanced by covers in black ArtVelours Eco microfleece with a new diamond pattern as well as red contrasting seams and red piping". The obligatory red stitching is present on the steering wheel too.

VW will star pre-sales for the ID. Buzz GTX "in the summer".
