In late March, WhatsApp was found testing a dedicated Apple CarPlay app, and today this has been officially launched. Previously, you could only use WhatsApp on CarPlay via Siri, but now the new dedicated app has much more functionality baked in.
You can read and send messages, receive and make calls, and access your contacts. Basically, everything you may want to do - you now can, right on your car's dashboard, no need to depend on talking to Siri anymore. Of course, everything is still end-to-end encrypted.
The new app has three tabs: the chat list, the call history, and favorite contacts. In the chat list you can check recent chats where you have unread messages, while the call history is self-explanatory - and you can of course call someone from there with a single tap.
The favorite contacts tab lets you quickly find the people you contact the most without needing to scroll through your entire chat list. If you tap on a favorite contact, you can call them or message them with fewer steps. This list will unsurprisingly sync with your favorites on your iPhone.
To get WhatsApp on CarPlay, you need to have the latest version for iOS installed on your iPhone. The new app will automatically appear on your CarPlay dashboard when your iPhone is connected.
