Xiaomi SU7 gets 50,000 firm orders in 27 minutes, limited Founders Edition unveiled

Xiaomi

Xiaomi just officially launched the SU7 EV in three versions, with an impressive starting price of about $30,000. The company has also made a very special Founders Edition, limited to 5,000 units. Deliveries for this special edition are set to start on April 3, and it's priced at the exact same level as the standard and Max versions.

Additionally, Xiaomi has announced that within the first 27 minutes after it started accepting orders for the SU7, it had already received more than 50,000 firm orders. That clearly signifies a hugely successful launch for the Chinese market, and now we are, even more than before, left hoping the SU7 will eventually make an international debut - it seems to be a true disruptor in the otherwise cooling EV market.

Deliveries for the non-Founders Edition cars are set to start towards the end of April, and that in itself is a rare sight in the EV space these days - the time from the full launch until the delivery phase is generally many more months (even years for some brands), but Xiaomi wants to do things differently, emulating the smartphone market where generally the time between the announcement and shipping is measured in weeks.

If you're interested in the SU7 - and we definitely think you should be - make sure you don't miss our full coverage of the launch today.
