Xiaomi YU7 Ultra is now testing on the Nurburgring

We knew this would happen, and now the inevitable has become reality - Xiaomi has started testing the performance version of its YU7 SUV around the Nürburgring. We've been calling this the YU7 Ultra ever since it was first spotted on the streets somewhere in China back in July, following the introduction of the non-Ultra YU7 in June.

But there's a twist - according to the most recent rumors from China, the YU7 Ultra will actually be called YU7 GT, breaking with the recently established tradition (the performance version of the Xiaomi SU7 sedan is the SU7 Ultra).

Either way, whatever it will end up being called, it should have the same powertrain as the SU7 Ultra, producing 1,548 hp and 1,305 lb-ft of torque. It also seems to have borrowed the SU7 Ultra's 21" wheels, its wider track, and the six-piston yellow brake calipers.

The design is as subdued as it can be for such a performance car, with modifications compared to the non-GT YU7, but not huge ones. The wheel arches are extended, the roof spoiler is longer, and there are larger air ducts in the lower part of the bumper, but that seems to be about it - at least what we can gather from looking at heavily camouflaged prototypes like this one.

Rumor has it the YU7 GT will be announced before the end of the year, with deliveries starting in the second quarter of next year. The YU7 GT will undoubtedly become the fastest SUV in history, and Xiaomi will definitely want to see it officially go round the Nürburgring and set a new record for an SUV.

The SU7 Ultra became the fastest production EV ever to go around the Nürburgring in June, following its prototype's run in October 2024, which established it as the fastest four-door car of any kind around the famous German racetrack.
