BYD's Yangwang luxury electric sedan spotted for the first time

Yangwang

Yangwang only came to the market a couple of months ago, but the BYD brand doesn’t waste a minute. It already has two electric vehicles out - the tank-like U8 SUV and the supercar U9. It turns out a third vehicle is already in the works, and judging by the recent spy photos, that model is ready for prime time.

The first thing that strikes us is the size of the electric sedan from Yangwang - this thing is huge! It is well over 197 inches long, and it sits low - it reminds us of the Lotus Envya. The two seem to have similar proportions. Judging by the size alone, Yangwang is aiming its new sedan at the likes of Mercedes EQS, Porsche Taycan, and BMW i7.

So far all Yangwang vehicles share the same luxury approach mixed with high performance. Both the U8 and U9 are unquestionably luxurious and use the same quad-motor powertrain. If indeed the new addition to the range comes with the same 1,180 hp output, it may be quick enough to challenge Tesla Model S or Lucid Air.

In a couple of the shots we can see the new sedan has three LiDAR sensors - just like the Lotus, Yangwang positioned two sensors on the front fenders and it is highly likely they are retractable. The third sensor sits atop the windshield where it has the widest field of view. Three sensors of course point to a fairly advanced ADAS system, it’ll be interesting to see how Yangwang’s system compares to the competition.

The interior shots reveal a very similar layout to the one on Yangwang U8 - a bigger center screen with two driver and passenger dedicated screens flanking it on its sides. While this is still just a test vehicle with some of the interior panels missing, we can already see the amount of space waiting for passengers. The steering wheel is slightly different than the one on the U8.

The electric sedan from Yangwang is expected to be its cheapest offering. Although very little is known about the car, it will be priced just above RMB 800,000 ($112,000) which is nearly $50,000 less than its SUV brethren asks. The supercar U9 is priced at $150,000 making the sedan an entry vehicle for the brand.
