BMW and Rimac have today announced the start of a long-term partnership, which is interesting because Rimac is owned by Bugatti Rimac, which is 45% owned by Porsche, which is owned by Volkswagen, which is one of BMW's main competitors.
Anyway, the aim of the collaboration between Rimac and BMW is "to co-develop and co-produce innovative solutions in the field of high-voltage battery technology for selected battery-electric vehicles", the official press release notes.
The Rimac Technology CampusRimac will be supplying BMW with high-voltage battery technology, e-axles, and electronics and software solutions, all of which are designed, engineered, and produced in-house at Rimac. This partnership is "a sign of the Rimac Technology transition from niche high-performance solutions supplier to high-volume Tier 1 supplier".
More details about exactly what this strategic tie-up will entail are promised to arrive "at a later stage".
