BMW Announcement

BMW just introduced the all-new BMW X2 series, including for the first time an EV, the iX2. Coming in a single xDrive30 version, the electric X2 has a rather polarizing design.

The iX2 xDrive30 features dual motor setup, one at the front axle and one at the rear. This is the same powertrain that BMW iX1 xDrive30 uses. These two motors combine to churn out 230 kW/313 hp in boost mode and up to 494 Nm (364 lb-ft) of torque. These help launch the compact Sports Activity Coupe (SAC), as BMW calls the iX2, from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 5.6 seconds, capping off at a top speed of 112 mph.

The BMW iX2's battery has 64.8 kWh usable capacity, again matching the BMW iX1. The range is obviously going to be slightly shorter here though at 279 miles in the WLTP cycle.

For charging the iX2 supports 11kW AC, which gives you a full charge in 6.5 hours. 22kW support comes as an option, cutting that to 3h 45min. DC top-ups are done at up to 130kW, giving you a 10-80% charge in 29 minutes.

The design of the iX2 is a blend of some of the recent BMW EVs and as most of them it will likely polarize opinions. It also brings the BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting, so it can't be mistaken for a car from any other brand in the dark.

Inside the iX2,is powered by the BMW Operating System version 9 with a driver display and a curved infotainment panel as well as an optional HUD.

BMW is offering the Veganza perforated variant and Vernasca leather as upholstery choices for the iX2, and tech enthusiasts will appreciate the inclusion of wireless charging for smartphones in the center console.

Automated driving and parking assistants are present as well as the so-called "routines", which enable conveniences such as letting your iX2 automatically roll down your window when it detects you are entering an underground car park.

The iX2 will be manufactured in Regensburg, Germany, but BMW is yet to confirm when we can expect deliveries to start.
