BMW Announcement

BMW is now letting us see the i4 in all its rendered glory. The aggressive new two-side grille is here to stay, and the car is peppered with blue accents meant to tell you that it's an EV. Including, hilariously or not, where the exhausts would be at the bottom of the rear end.

Otherwise, it looks similar to the 4 series from the front but it's longer and yet its sloping roof makes it look sportier than the 3 series.

BMW says the i4 will become available before the end of the year, in different versions including an M Performance model. It will have up to 590 km of range in the WLTP cycle and 300 miles according to the EPA testing procedure. The power output goes all the way up to 390 kW / 530 hp, allowing for an acceleration of around 4 seconds to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph).

According to rumors, there will be three trims with two powertrains. The entry-level model will only arrive next year, with a 60 kWh battery and rear motor rear wheel drive, developing 200 kW (268 hp). This will be known as the i4 eDrive35. The next step up is the i4 eDrive40, with 246 kW / 330 hp still from one rear motor and an 80 kWh battery pack, and this is the one that will reach those range numbers above.

Finally, the i4 M50 xDrive will have dual-motor all-wheel drive and the 80 kWh battery pack, producing the aforementioned 390 kW / 530 hp and the 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4 seconds. Its top speed will be limited to 200 km/h (124 mph), if these rumors are correct of course.

When it comes to charging, DC support will top out at 150 kW, allowing the battery to go from zero to 80% in about 35 minutes, and add 100 km (62 miles) of range in 6 minutes. You'll also get 11 kW AC charging support. The boot/trunk space is 470l (17 cu ft), or 1,290l (46 cu ft) with the rear seats folded. There's also a 38l (1 cu ft) space for charging cables under the trunk.
