BYD

BYD is almost ready to launch the Seal 06 GT, a production model based on its Ocean-M concept. The company claims that the Seal 06 GT is designed to capture the hearts of young drivers looking for an electric vehicle that's both fun and practical. The issue with that statement is the Ocean-M concept car looked really attractive, while The road-going version... well, you can see it for yourself.

The official images released by BYD show a sleek exterior, but it's nowhere near as aggressive as the concept. The final version can be easily mistaken for any other BYD vehicle. Gone are the outrageous rear wing, side skirts, and both rear and front bumpers with oversized air intakes of the Ocean-M.

The Seal 06 GT will be built on BYD's advanced all-electric platform and will be powered by its new generation of C2B (cell-to-body) batteries. While full specifications are yet to be revealed, BYD has indicated that the Seal 06 GT will have a price range of RMB 150,000 ($21,050) to RMB 200,000 (just over $28,000), making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. It's expected to go on sale in the third quarter of this year, with the official unveiling scheduled for August 30 at the Chengdu auto show.

BYD is positioning the Seal 06 GT as the "GT model of choice for young people," suggesting that it will offer a blend of performance, style, and technology that resonates with the younger generation. BYD seems to be drawing inspiration from the Volkswagen Golf GTI, a legendary (if a bit boring) hot hatch known for its sporty handling and everyday usability.

The Chengdu auto show, which kicks off on August 30, will provide the first opportunity for the public to see the Seal 06 GT in person. It will be interesting to see how it's received by potential buyers and whether it lives up to the hype. If BYD can deliver on its promises, the Seal 06 GT could become a popular choice for young drivers looking for an electric car that's both fun and affordable.
