BYD Denza

BYD used the 2024 Beijing Auto Show to announce a new addition to its premium brand Denza and it's a real head-turner – meet the Z9 GT.

BYD’s Denza Z9 GT is China's 1,000 horsepower EV contender

The Denza Z9 GT's boasts what we can best describe as EV aggressive styling. There's no massive grille or oversized intakes here, just flowing lines emphasizing the car's sporty leanings. Underneath lies a powertrain promising nearly 1,000 horsepower and a sub-3s sprint from 0-62 mph.

The Z9 GT is just the first of the new Z line by Denza, the GT standing for Grand Tourer. This new EV will sit on BYD's e3 platform and stretch over 203.9 inches in length.

The Z9 GT claims to complete a moose test at speeds up to 53 mph, suggesting it has the handling to match the acceleration.

Denza plans to hold a special technology launch event for the Z9 GT later this year, revealing even more details. It will certainly be interesting to see the price point for this high-performance EV.

BYD also announced a car under its own brand - the Ocean-M hatchback. It's the industry's first rear-wheel-drive performance hatchback per BYD's claims, but at RMB 150,000 ($20,700) the Ocean-M sits at the opposite end of the pricing spectrum.

Set to hit markets later in 2024, the Ocean-M will be built on an all-new electric platform with the latest battery technology, but we get no specifics at this point. This smaller car looks to rival models like the latest Volkswagen ID.3 GTX Performance, but we'll keep you posted once we hear more about it.
